Bernadette Hoppe Urges New York Lawmakers to Authorize Medical Aid in Dying
Terminally ill Buffalo attorney Bernadette Hoppe testified before the New York State legislature and recorded a YouTube video to urge for the passage of legislation to authorize medical aid in dying. It is an end-of-life care option available in nine states and Washington, D.C. for terminally ill adults with six months or less to live to get prescription medication they can decide to take to peacefully end their suffering if it becomes unbearable. Bernadette’s advocacy generated five stories in news media outlets. Unfortunately, Bernadette died on March 1, 2019 without this option, but she inspired others to carry her torch.
