Recognizing opioid addiction as a public health crisis, Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther charged the Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Board of Franklin County with creating an addiction prevention program. Nationwide Foundation provided funding to launch the campaign, “Don’t Live in Denial, Ohio,” in June 2018. Using words and thoughts gleaned from focus groups, the campaign encourages parents to talk to their kids about the dangers of opioids and safely dispose of opioids and prescription medicines. The effort has grown into the Ohio Opioid Education Alliance, a unique public, private partnership of 85+ businesses and organizations working together to prevent addiction.
